Project in Knebworth – Full Resin Driveway Transformation
10 July 2026This project in Knebworth was a large-scale driveway transformation completed by Hertsmere Drives & Landscapes in Knebworth, Hertfordshire. This project involved a full excavation, complete removal of the existing driveway surface, demolition of the old retaining walls, installation of new upright sleeper walls, a permeable tarmac base, and approximately 160 square metres of resin-bound surfacing.
The whole project was completed within ten days, and the finished result looked fantastic.
From the start, this was a very technical job. The existing driveway had aged and the layout needed a complete redesign to create a cleaner, stronger and more modern finish. Our team dug everything out, removed all waste materials from site, and prepared the driveway properly from the ground up. Good preparation is one of the most important parts of any driveway installation, especially on a project of this size.
One of the main features of Project Knebworth was the sleeper work. We demolished the old walls and replaced them with new upright sleepers around the driveway and garden areas. Installing sleepers upright requires careful setting out, strong fixing, and accurate levels to make sure the finished lines are clean and solid. This gave the whole driveway a much sharper finish while also creating strong retaining edges around the landscaped areas.
Once the excavation and sleeper installation were complete, we installed a permeable tarmac base at approximately two and a half inches. This created a strong, stable and free-draining foundation ready for the resin-bound surface. A permeable base is ideal for resin driveways because it allows water to drain through the surface correctly, helping to reduce standing water and giving the driveway long-term durability.
The resin-bound surface was then installed over approximately 160 square metres. The resin was supplied by SUDS UK, and the finish gave the property a bright, clean and premium look. Resin-bound surfacing is a great choice for large driveways because it creates a smooth, attractive and low-maintenance finish while still being practical for everyday vehicle use.
To frame the resin and give the driveway a high-end finish, we installed Bradstone Woburn Autumn Gold paving around the perimeter. We also used Bradstone Autumn key kerbs to create strong, defined edges and a neat transition between the driveway, garden areas and entrance. The colours worked extremely well with the property, the new sleepers and the surrounding landscaping.
This project completely transformed the front of the property. The old driveway and walls were removed, the levels were corrected, the retaining areas were rebuilt, and the new resin surface gave the home a much cleaner and more modern appearance. The combination of the upright sleepers, permeable tarmac base, SUDS UK resin, Bradstone Woburn Autumn Gold border and Bradstone Autumn key kerbs created a standout finish.
Project Knebworth is a great example of what can be achieved with proper groundwork, careful planning and attention to detail. It was completed within ten days from start to finish, and the final result was a large, clean, practical and premium resin-bound driveway built to a very high standard.
